frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral from my GP to make an appointment to see a Dermatologist?

No. You may ask your GP to make a private referral if you prefer, or you may refer yourself directly to the clinic for treatment.

There seems to be a lot of treatment options available, what if I do not know which treatment I want or if a procedure will work on me?

Most of our patients are unsure of the treatment that will be best suited for their skin condition. However provided you know what is worrying you about your skin, we will be able to advise you on the range of treatment options available. Together we will then create a personal treatment plan to ensure the best results for you.

What are your clinic’s prices?

The first or initial consultation with a Dermatologist starts from £340.

Where is the price list on your website?

As we offer many treatments for medical and aesthetic concerns in our clinic and for that reason we do not have a price list on our website. Most new patients who come to see us, first book a consultation with a Dermatologist, who will then make a diagnosis and propose the options for treatment. Full information about pricing also will be provided. One of the hall marks of our clinic is that for most patients we can offer more than one option for treatment. Therefore if price is a concern, we can usually offer a treatment that will fit within the budget of the patient.

Do you offer free consultations?

We do not offer free consultations. Our Dermatologists are all highly qualified, trained and experienced doctors who specialise in treating the conditions affecting the skin, hair and nails. The consultation fees that apply reflect this level of qualifications, training and experience.

Is the cost of the consultation deducted from the cost of the treatment?

In most cases, the cost of the initial consultation is not deducted from the cost of any treatment that may be recommended. However, there are exceptions in a limited number of situations, and it would be best to discuss this with the receptionist when you are booking your appointment.

How much are the follow up appointments?

The charge for follow up consultations differs according to the individual Dermatologist and you are advised to check with the receptionist when booking your first or initial consultation.

Do you offer student discounts?

We do not offer student discounts.

Do you accept insurance?

We see many patients who claim the cost of their treatment from an insurance provider. However you will be required to first settle your invoice directly with us and then claim it back from your insurer. Therefore we advise anyone who is considering using insurance to pay for their consultation or treatment, to first contact their insurer before booking to check that they recognise our clinic and the Dermatologist who they are seeing. It is also a good idea to check how much of the invoice the insurance company will cover, as we will not be responsible for any difference or shortfall between our total charges and the amount the insurer is prepared to reimburse.

Can you treat all types of skin concerns?

All of our Dermatologists are experienced in seeing patients with concerns such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, skin infections or irritations and skin cancer. Each of our Dermatologists also has their own areas of special interest, and in many cases, they have undertaken advanced qualifications, participated in clinical trials or published peer reviewed papers about these areas of special interest.

If you have any questions about the expertise of our clinic, then please explain the nature of your concern to the receptionist at the time of making your enquiry, and we will ensure you are booked with the Dermatologist who will be best qualified to help you.

Do the non-surgical treatments have any side effects?

All medical procedures have side effects of some type. Some side effects may be minor, such as a small bruise or redness, while other side effects may mean that you must stay out of the sun for a prolonged period of time. We will advise you on the steps that you need to take following your treatment.

Do you sell any skin creams or other medications?

Our Dermatologists are able to write prescriptions, for prescription only medication, if this is considered necessary for your treatment. The clinic also stocks a selection of high quality dermatological skin care products.

Can I get a prescription for Accutane or Roaccutane from your clinic?

Accutane and Roaccutane are the brand names for Isotretinoin which is a prescription only medicine used to treat acne that has been unresponsive to other treatments. Under UK law, only a Dermatologist can prescribe Isotretinoin. If you wish to request a prescription for Accutaine or Roaccutane, then you will first need to make an appointment for a face-to-face consultation with a Dermatologist and they will then consider whether this is an appropriate medicine for you.

Do you provide biologics therapy or biologic medication?

We have arrangements in place with the manufacturers of some biologic therapies for treating chronic conditions, such as alopecia, eczema and psoriasis. Following a face-to-face consultation, the Dermatologist will then discuss with you whether this is the most appropriate pathway for your condition.

Can you arrange blood tests?

Yes, we offer an in-clinic phlebotomy service which means that we can withdraw your blood in our clinic and this will be done by one of our specially trained team members. We also have arrangements with major laboratories who offer a walk-in service and are located within a 5 minute walk of our clinic. Once we have provided you with the blood test request form, you can go and have your blood test done. Depending on the nature of the tests, the results will usually be available within a couple of days.

Are treatments covered by the NHS or private insurance companies?

Dr Haus Dermatology is a private dermatologist clinic and treatments are not covered by the NHS.

Is there a waiting list to be seen?

We have a number of different Dermatologists working at our clinic, and we can usually offer a new patient an appointment within a couple of days at the most.

What if I need to cancel an appointment or am running late?

If you need to change or cancel an appointment then please provide a minimum of 3 working days notice, (5 working days if your appointment is with Dr Haus) otherwise a cancellation charge will apply. If you are running late for an appointment, then please telephone us as soon as you know that you will be late and let us know. We will always try to see patients who are genuinely running late, however, for anyone who is more than 15 minutes late for their scheduled appointment you may be asked to rebook for another date.
