What Are Lip Fillers?
Lip Fillers are non-permanent injections to provide a non-surgical solution for people who are unhappy with the size or shape of their lips. These injections can be used to safely add volume to both the upper and lower lip.
At our Dermatologist led clinic on Harley Street we can plump and contour the lips with Lip Filler Injections that contain a form of hyaluronic acid which is especially suited for use in the lips.
For example the cupid’s bow on the upper lip can be given a more defined look, or volume can be added to the upper and lower lips to increase fullness and give a more defined smile.
In some people the corners of the mouth turn downwards which makes a person look permanently sad, and this can also be improved with Lip Filler injections. Finally, these injections can also be used to smooth out what we call ‘smokers lines’ around the outside of the mouth.
How Long Do Lip Fillers Last?
In a typical person, the results from lip filler injections will last between 6 to 12 months, depending on the results that you are seeking.
You can also take steps to prolong the results by ensuring that you use lipsticks (or lip balm for men) containing SPF because sun exposure increases damage to the vermillion and that over time will decrease lip volume.
Who Might Benefit From Treatments With Lip Fillers?
There are different reasons why people may wish to have these treatments. For instance age can cause our lips to become thinner or less defined. Sun damage causes the upper lip to become thinner and the line between the lip’s vermillion and the adjacent skin becomes blurred.
Some people are simply born with thin lips and they wish to increase lip volume in order to provide balance with other parts of their face. The lips have also long been considered a symbol of sensuality and many people have these treatments to achieve a more youthful looking mouth.
The Lip Filler Brands We Use
We currently use Restylane and Juvederm for Lip Filler treatments at our clinic. Both Restylane and Juvederm are FDA Approved and in our experience provide the best predictable and long lasting results when treating the lips.
Do Lip Fillers Hurt?
The lips are an extremely sensitive area of the body and both Restylane and Juvederm contain anaesthesia components that minimise the discomfort during treatment.
